Voice of Numbers

Safer Communities Alliance is a not for profit organisation that was originally established in January 2010 to address the issues of violence in our community, cross border policing and lack of police numbers, focusing on the area covering from Coolangatta to Byron Bay.

The objectives of the organisation have shifted in the past 12 months to focus heavily on making our community safer through well organised youth music based events that not only provide as an entertainment option and outlet for talented musicians, but also act as an employer for youth trainees.

The broad objectives of the SCA as at December 2011 are as follows:

  • To engage local youth within the community and build community support and interaction for future youth based events.
  • To utilise the social networking site Facebook to communicate with local youth and to get information about local youth music events out to the young people in the area and also as a place for them to announce upcoming gigs and support each other in their musical endeavours.
  • To involve local young people in the events in varying capacities and roles.
  • To utilise local media to increase publicity and maximise media exposure of local talented youth.
  • To seek sponsorship and donations and apply for grants to cover all costs involved in hosting youth music based events.
  • To see an increase in the availability of youth services in the area, particularly in terms of crisis services.
