Handling of young violent offenders
Tweed residents have been complaining for some time about the inaction of police regarding young violent offenders. (See Tweed Daily News 8/1/10 where one victim reports repeated calls to the police with no action see story here)
In one example brought to the Alliance, a victim of a hold-up by youths armed with knives, was told by police to just let the matter go, despite the fact that the 15 year old youths were still on the scene and were known to police. Absolutely nothing was done. We will continue to see a rise in violent incidents committed by young people if there are no real deterrents or consequences in place.
